DESCRIPTION: France, large Louis XV style boulle clock with music box in the base, clock case richly ornamented with gilt, cast brass mounts, and with Boulle work, the engraved scroll cut brass sheets with tortoise shell inlay, case also with removable top, surmounted by a seated female figure with shield and spear, cast brass dial with Roman numeral white enamel cartouches and repousse style decoration, blued steel hands, brass 8 days, time and strike, movement, and pendulum with gilt mask of Helios, the base concealing a music box, 8 3/8 x 2" cylinder with 2 combs, playing 6 - 8 tunes, c1860
CONDITION: case dirty and with significant losses to tortoise shell, brass and tortoise also lifting, mounts are good, but now lacking gilding, dial good, hands now painted black, movement ticks and strikes, music box cylinder looks good, combs without breaks, winding square broken off of arbor, pressure on great wheel allows the box to play, it is loud, with good tone, a piece worthy of restoration, Ht 46"
